STORY
LYNDA JONES
Artist, maker and designer, based in Leitrim, working from her studio by the River Shannon, she creates bold, colourful jewellery inspired by ancient Irish stone carvings.
Growing up, Lynda was happiest making things with her hands, whether in her dad's farm workshop or the school art room. Although encouraged towards ceramics, she chose graphic design and spent over twenty years working as a brand designer with a global sports organisation, helping to create brands, campaigns and experiences for audiences around the world.
After moving to Leitrim in 2018, Lynda returned to making through workshops in printmaking, stained glass and mould-making. It was in a jewellery-making class that she discovered polymer clay and felt an immediate connection to the material. It brought together everything she enjoyed: colour, texture, form and storytelling.
Today, her work is inspired by Ireland's rich heritage and the marks left behind by our ancestors. Through contemporary materials and techniques, she creates pieces that bring those stories into everyday life.
MATERIALS
Lynda mainly works with polymer clay, chosen for its versatility, vibrant colour and ability to capture texture and detail. She is also exploring silver art clay, printmaking and other materials as her practice develops.
Her work combines hand-making techniques with contemporary tools and processes, allowing her to experiment with pattern, surface and form.
PROCESS
Research and experimentation are an important part of Lynda's practice. Inspiration comes from visits to heritage sites, ancient carvings, museums, books and the landscape around her.
Ideas often begin with sketching, carving and testing patterns by hand. Designs are developed through a process of making, refining and exploring different materials and techniques.
Each piece is designed and made in her Leitrim studio, carrying patterns from the past into contemporary forms that can be worn, shared and enjoyed today.
